Introduced in 1987, Italy’s .IT country-specific domain name extension is very popular both locally and in the English-speaking world. Because there are existing 2nd-level Domains that include names of different areas and localities in Italy reserved for local third-level registrations, new names that include geographical regions of any kind are not permitted on any level to avoid any future confusion.
